Energy Care For Older People

16 July 2009

Phoenix Supply this week re-launched their Energy Care Scheme, which offers extended benefits to vulnerable and older natural gas customers who have specific needs.

The scheme is set up for customers who are older (60 years of age or over), disabled (including those who are deaf or blind) or the chronically sick.

The additional services available include: a free annual gas safety check, provision of special controls and adaptors, information provided in alternative formats including Braille, specialist advice and a password and nominee scheme.

Bill Carson, Chairman of Age Sector Platform, has given his organisation's full support to the scheme. At the re-launch he commented:

"There are still thousands of local older people out there that are eligible for free initiatives like the Phoenix Energy Care Scheme. We would encourage those who have not yet done so to contact Phoenix and take advantage of the range of free benefits that are on offer to help them".

After the re-launch David Strahan, General Manager of Phoenix Supply, welcomed the support the scheme has had from a wide variety of organisations and individuals, such as Age Sector Platform and Dame Joan Harbinson, the Older People's Advocate for Northern Ireland.

Mr Strahan went on to say:

"Once a customer has registered for the Phoenix Energy Care Scheme we can make a note of their individual circumstances, ensuring that our service is delivered to them in an understanding and caring manner, and taking account of their individual needs."

If you wish to register for the scheme, or know of a friend or family member who could benefit, call 0845 900 5253 or write to the Customer Accounts Manager, Phoenix Supply Ltd, 197 Airport Road West, BT3 9ED.

Supporting older people: Bill Carson (Chairman of Age Sector Platform), David Strahan (General Manager of Phoenix Supply) and Dame Joan Harbinson (Older People's Advocate NI).
